A new medical centre is on track to open early next year in one of Moreton Bay’s fastest growing suburbs.
Work is well under way on the Burpengary Health Precinct, on a one-hectare site at 658 Morayfield Rd, near the crematorium.
Austwide Property developer Andrew Osborne said construction of the 2600sqm centre is on course to finish by Christmas.
The medical centre will be operated by Dr Jamal Hussain and Dr Lucy Randall, currently at Burpengary East Medical Centre on Buckley Rd.
Dr Hussain said the fit-out will take three-four months and the current target is to open the medical centre in mid-April 2026.
Access to the centre, which will have more than 100 parking spaces, will be via a new slip road off Morayfield Rd.
The centre’s left side, already leased, will house the doctors, a pharmacy and pathology. Talks are under way with operators on the right side in fields such as radiology, physiotherapy, dental and other allied health services.
“We’ve been looking forward to this for about four years now,” Dr Hussain said.
“Our current site is about 30 years old and we’ve hit the capacity of what we can do with it. To expand we have to look to buy neighbouring shops or move here.
“Moving here we will have more space. It is ideally set out for
operating as a medical centre … it’s not a retro-fitted shop unit.
“It’s going to be a more pleasant environment for doctors to work in and patients.
“Our medical centre is changing its name to Sterling Medical Centre, which is a name change and mission statement in one.”
Leasing agent Franz Stapelberg, Principal of Ray White Medical Queensland, expects the centre to be “around 90 per cent leased” when it opens.
“Our focus is looking at allied health providers – physio, psychology, OT, speech pathology -n that can pick up some of that referral work from the GPs,” he said.
“Many want to see-feel-touch it before making their move. Now the building is out of the ground you can see the vision and that helps us.”
Andrew Osborne said, in partnership with Drs Hussain and Randall, “we’re creating a centre that is going to service the area for the next 30 years”.
“It will be curved in the middle but has two arms now, oriented to the north for the winter sun and projecting acoustics out (towards the road),” he said.
“We’re doing everything trying to be sympathetic to the area around us.”
